Needs to be Broken to Fly

Matthew 13:31-32

31
He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."

I was reading this today and something struck me. something that i never really noticed before.

looking at the background of the mustard seed, the mustard seed was something that the Jewish people refused to plant in their gardens. in fact, it was in the Mosaic Law that they were not allowed to plant the mustard seed. why? because the mustard seed takes over all of the other plants in the garden. it spreads hard and fast. so the very idea that Jesus used the kingdom of heaven and compared it to the mustard seed was sort of a slap in the face to the Pharisees.

something else though. IN ORDER FOR MUSTARD TO BE USED TO ITS FULL POWER IT MUST BE CRUSHED, GROUNDED, AND BROKEN FOR ITS POWER TO BE RELEASED.

THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT JESUS DID ON THE CROSS! Jesus' power could not fully be effective until he was beaten, whipped, and put to death on the cross. only then was the power of the cross released! that is amazing! the whole idea that Jesus used the mustard seed was not only that it spread like a wild fire all over like the kingdom of God on earth, but Jesus used the mustard seed because he knew how its potency needed to be released and he used that as an example of him dying on the cross.

simply amazing.

now we always wonder why we always say that when we go through the hard times to help build up our faith and realization that God is preparing us for things bigger than that situation?

sometimes in order for things to be released into the world to its full power, it must be beaten down, broken, and crushed.

random fact: Mosquitoes can fly through rain drops with out getting hit.
